Non-Profit Spotlight: New American Pathways

Did you know that Georgia has a big refugee community? I don't even remember how I stumbled upon New American Pathways back in 2016. I had that persistent itch to give back to my local youth community, and I was won over by what they do. Being an immigrant from Nigeria myself, I know firsthand the struggles that come with adjusting and integrating into a foreign country.

New American Pathways is an Atlanta based nonprofit with the mission of Helping Refugees and Georgia Thrive. Their vision is for new Americans in metro Atlanta to become successful, contributing, and welcomed members of Georgia’s communities by offering the most comprehensive, fully integrated services targeted to meet the specific needs of refugees and other immigrants in Georgia (read more here).

I was fortunate enough to mentor a young lady from the Central African Republic through their Young Womens Leadership Program. This program supported refugee girls by promoting educational enrichment, leadership and life skills while establishing a foundation for their future careers. I was able to positively impact my mentee by providing continuous encouragement, support and personal engagement.

This new year, I'm excited to be returning as a Vocational Pathways Mentor where I will work with refugees to help them identify their career goals, provide vocational coaching, develop job readiness, and help advance professional opportunities in their desired field.

New American Pathways has so many volunteer opportunities, some of which can be done virtually (read here)! Also check out my guide to volunteering at home for some other great ways you can give back. Thanks for stopping by! xoxo.
