How I Stay Motivated to Exercise


One of the few things that I have remained consistent in doing ever since I moved to the US 20 years ago has been exercising. Exercising for me is not just about losing weight - it's my therapy where I can escape to and let it all out while doing something I truly love and enjoy doing. Here are some tips which have helped me stay motivated to exercise:


Have a Designated Time To Exercise Every Day -...and try not to change it. Just like taking a shower or eating, when something becomes part of your daily routine, it will become second nature. Structure is good for me and I have found that blocking my calendar for a lunch time workout has been very effective.


Choose a Workout You Enjoy Doing - Walking, dancing, jump roping, weights, swimming, pick anything! I like going to the gym and running.


Pick a Cute Outfit: - This helps with your body confidence and gives me another reason to look forward to wearing my workout clothes and exercising.

Set a Goal - Decide on how many times a week you want to exercise. And write it down. so that you are committed and kept accountable.

Just Show Up - This is when discipline and the habit you have formed will kick in. You don't skip bathing because you don't feel like it (or do you? 😅😂). When something becomes a routine, you are almost on auto pilot and still show up despite how you feel. It also helps if you tell yourself that at least I showed up, even if I didn't exercise as much as I wanted to.
